Seguro que cuando estabas en la escuela tu profesor os mandaba hacer estiramientos antes del ejercicio.
Todo el mundo piensa que los estiramientos son perfectos como calentamiento, pero ¿y si te digo que te han contado una mentira?
Ahora mismo te voy a contar la verdad, pero antes, quiero que sepas que se han necesitado más de 15 horas para crear este video entre investigación, redacción, montaje, corrección y publicación.
Lo único que te pido si encuentras valor en el video y lo vas a encontrar, es que lo compartas con quien tú quieras.
Uno de los beneficios más popularmente atribuidos a los estiramientos es que ayudan a prevenir lesiones.
Para comprobar la veracidad de esta afirmación se ralizó un estudio en Australia de 12 semanas con 1538 soldados de la armada divididos en dos grupos.
No se encontró ninguna reducción clínicamente significativa en la cantidad de lesiones del grupo que realizaba estiramientos.
Lo que es más, se piensa que realizarlo antes del ejercicio podría incrementar las probabilidades de lesión a causa del daño celular que provoca ligado a su efecto analgésico.
Sería algo así como dañar células musculares, incrementar su tolerancia al dolor, y entonces hacer ejercicio a tope.
Otra aparente razón que nos dan para estirar es que ayuda a minimizar el dolor muscular post-entrenamiento comúnmente conocido como “agujetas”.
Hasta el año 1986 creíamos que los músculos dañados quedaban en realidad contracturados, lo que a posterior bloqueaba el flujo de sangre causando el dolor de las agujetas.
Aunque ahora sabemos que no es cierto, la creencia de que es beneficioso ha sobrevivido hasta el día de hoy a causa de la desinformación.
En 2019 disponemos de suficientes evidencias conclusivas para afirmar que los estiramientos no repercuten positivamente sobre las agujetas post-entrenamiento.
En uno de estos estudios se examinó a los participantes tras estirar antes, después y con ambas a la vez, pero ninguna de ellas mostró reducciones clínicamente significativas.
Pero bueno. Al menos debería mejorar el rendimiento si estiramos y preparamos los músculos para la acción. O al menos eso parece, pero no tan rápido.
Los resultados indican que estirar perjudican al rendimiento tanto con ejercicios de fuerza como con ejercicios de resistencia.
En el estudio, las personas que realizaron una rutina de estiramiento previa al entrenamiento de fuerza vieron su efectividad reducida en torno al 13%
En otro estudio se hizo lo mismo pero con corredores y adivina. El grupo que realizó estiramientos finalizó la carrera unos 13 segundos más tarde.
Seguro que estás empezando a pensar que los estiramientos son inútiles, pero no te equivoques.
Durante su realización se fomenta el flujo sanguíneo hacia los músculos incrementando también la temperatura corporal y la coordinación muscular.
Una mejor flexibilidad y rango de movimiento son algunos de los beneficios para la salud que te aporta una buena rutina de estiramientos.
Son especialmente útiles en deportes que requieren una gran cantidad de flexibilidad como la gimnasia, aunque también son totalmente irrelevantes en otros como el running o el levantamiento de pesas.
