petco hours Emaciated Gracie lucky to be alive

A three-year-old dog is lucky to be alive after being found completely emaciated in Cambridge.
Gracie, the tan coloured Lurcher, was discovered by a member of the public in Milton Road, Cambridge on January 7th and taken to Wood Green's Godmanchester Centre where she is currently being cared for
Her skeletal body weighs just 14kg which is just over half of her ideal weight.
Gracie has been given a warm kennel and some comfy blankets to lay on. She has been put on a special diet which will see her consume four to five meals a day to help her reach an ideal weight of approximately 20kgs.
Deputy Dog Welfare Manager Chris Bennett said: "We are all shocked and upset to see an abandoned dog in this condition but sadly it is something we are becoming accustomed to as the number of neglected and abandoned dogs continues to rise.
"Despite being extremely hungry and most probably feeling very weak, Gracie is a very friendly dog who loves having a fuss and a cuddle from the staff."
RSPCA Inspector Richard Lyghgoe who is investigating added: "Poor Gracie is in a horrific state - practically a bag of bones. How anyone could neglect an animal to this extent and leave her to get into such a bad way is just beyond me. It is heartbreaking.
"Without the help of Wood Green lovely Gracie would have had a very slim chance of survival - she will now be given a second chance in life.
"We urge anyone with information about how Gracie got into the state she did to call us in confidence."
Gracie will stay in the care of staff at Wood Green until she has put on a healthy amount of weight to be rehomed.
