เรื่องย่อ อะไรจะเกิดขึ้นเมื่อมนุษย์ไม่ได้อยู่ “จุดสูงสุดของห่วงโซ่อาหาร” อีกต่อไป ในค่ำคืนหนึ่ง ณ สถานที่ที่ไม่มีผู้สัญจร ชีวิตของเด็กหนุ่มธรรมดาคนหนึ่ง “คาเนกิ เคน” (คุโบตะ มาซาทากะ) ได้เปลี่ยนไปตลอดกาล เขาได้พบกับหญิงสาว ที่ชื่นชอบ “คิมิชิโระ ริเสะ” (อาโออิ ยู) ในร้านกาแฟ
เมื่อเขาได้คุยกับเธอเขาพบว่าทั้งเขาและเธอต่างชอบอะไรที่คล้ายกัน แต่ความจริงได้ปรากฏเมื่อเขาพบว่าริเสะ “ไม่ใช่มนุษย์” เธอเป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตที่มีชีวิตอยู่ได้ด้วยการกินมนุษย์เป็นอาหาร หรือ “กูล” แต่แล้วอุบัติเหตุก็เกิดขึ้น แพทย์ต้องนำอวัยวะของริเสะมาใช้เพื่อรักษาชีวิตของคาเนกิเอาไว้ ทำให้เขาไม่ใช่มนุษย์ธรรมดาอีกต่อไป แต่เป็นครึ่งคน ครึ่งกูล ต่อจากนี้เขาจะเลือกใช้ชีวิตแบบมนุษย์ หรือใช้ชีวิตแบบกูล
